Portland, Oregon: United Methodists from around the world will gather at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon, May 10-20 for the 2016 United Methodist General Conference.
As the top policymaking body of the worldwide 12.3 million-member United Methodist Church, the General Conference meets every four years to determine the denomination’s future direction, consider revisions to church law, and approve plans and budgets for church-wide programs.

Most United Methodists who traveled to the 2016 General Conference got here by plane.
Randy Neal made the nearly 2,500-mile trek between Crossville, TN, and Portland, OR, by Greyhound bus.
His hope for the journey: To meet people and share Jesus.
In a world where 37 million people are living with HIV/AIDS, a budget of $62,000 for the United Methodist Global Aids Fund is “a sin, a scandal, an embarrassment and a shame” said Bishop Gregory Palmer at a fund event on May 9.
“AIDS is Not Over! ... Global Issues and the Church” was a daylong workshop featuring United Methodist leaders and laity from around the world, an AIDS scientist and people living with HIV/AIDS. The event was held at Rose City Park UMC, one day before the denomination’s 2016 General Conference.
