“I am the bread of life”
August 2, 2015
John 6:24-35
Well it is August—the dog days of summer. For some of us the living is easy—for others it is a daily struggle just to find some bread. In the church where I worship we have a clinic each Tuesday evening. A wonderful doctor who teaches the trade at Broadlawns brings his resident students over to Grace Church and for two hours they see and offer healing to whom ever comes through the door—no questions asked.

In addition the church serves a free meal. A local Bakery provides wonderful breads. A good meal is another form of healing.

If you are hard up for a sermon, try this: open a good Concordance and note how the word bread threads its way from Genesis to Revelation. Bread in the wilderness, Manna, bread by the sea, bread in an Upper Room, bread that opens the eyes at an Emmaus table, bread on a beach one early Easter morning—this bread that satisfies and feeds the hungry heart.

On this first Sunday in August, invite the folks to the Gospel Feast—in true Isaiah fashion let them come with or without money.

In addition—the prayer "Bread and Justice," 639 the Methodist Hymnal seems to fit well.

Excursus: A bit of trivia just for fun.
My friend June Rutt often sends me stuff that I need to know. Here is June’s latest regarding the Month of August 2015.

August, in 2015, will have 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. This happens only once every 823 years. The Chinese call it ' Silver pockets full'.

So, send this message to your friends and in four days money will surprise you. Based on Chinese Feng Shui. Whoever does not transmit the message...may find themselves poor.
I obeyed......... (you never know).

“Yo soy el pan de vida”

Juan 6:24-35

. .. (pues, nunca se sabe).
